Improvement of Takt Time

An air cylinder is being used in the feeder section of the food processing machine, but the return time of the cylinder is causing inefficiencies in the cycle time. Therefore, we want to shorten the cycle time by reconsidering the drive mechanism of the equipment, such as switching to a rotary mechanism. However, considering that this will be used in an explosion-proof environment, we want to avoid using electric motors for safety reasons.

Solution/Countermeasure

Considering the adoption of the cam-type air indexer 'MDF,' a rotary mechanism capable of performing indexing operations through pneumatic control. 
By supplying air to the main body air port, the internal cam piston operates and performs the indexing action, which allows for continuous feeding without the return time typical of a cylinder.

Effects/Benefits

By adopting MDF, the equipment's cycle time improved as it enabled continuous feed operation without the return time seen in cylinders.
Since the MDF is an index that uses a solenoid valve for pneumatic control, it allows device design without a motor and can be used in explosion-proof environments. 
Furthermore, the W-cam mechanism enables two indexing operations within a single cycle of air supply and exhaust to the main air port, contributing to higher indexing speed and reduced air consumption.
